How We Do It
Roof-level assessment
Crown condition, cap fit, flue tile projection and flashing are checked and photographed at the top rather than assessed from the ground.

It is the highest-value part on the chimney for the money. Without one, rain falls directly down the flue onto the smoke shelf and damper, animals nest in the passage, and embers can leave the top. Caps cost a fraction of what water damage inside the flue costs to correct.
It depends on the crack. Hairline cracking in a sound crown seals well with a flexible crown coating. A crown that is thin, unreinforced, or already broken through has failed structurally, and coating it just hides the problem while water keeps entering.
